InVOLve enables people with learning difficulties and mental health problems to participate in
community activity. For many this is the first step towards improving confidence and employability. It also fosters durable and committed partnerships between voluntary organisations, disabled peoples groups and local service providers, with the common aim of tackling exclusion. The project targets those disadvantaged in the labour market due to disability, a medical condition, or other health related problems, including mental health, and is tailored to the specific needs of this group.
Volunteering provides an ideal opportunity for people with these disadvantages to improve their employability. Taking part in community activity is a valuable for building the confidence, motivation and self-esteem vital to entering the job market, but volunteers also gain practical, up-to-date work experience and a means of accessing more formal training. Volunteering offers particular benefits to people facing social exclusion and people are often unaware of the range and quality of the voluntary opportunities available to them. In some cases people often see their disability as a barrier to volunteering, a view we are working hard to change. The more we spread the word about volunteering the more people will come forward.
The Project is funded by the European Social Fund If you need to know more about this project then please contact the Volunteer Centre.
